A children's book from artist Julia S. Powell reminding us to find the whimsy and beauty in the everyday, every day.

Julia has built a thriving career as an artist focusing on colorful and textured paintings. In her first book, her gorgeous landscapes mingle with whimsical creatures known as the Pillowpuffs.

The 'Puffs remind children—and grown-ups—of the importance of slowing down and appreciating the world around us. They are also very silly.

Julia is a single mother to two young girls and treasures those reading experiences when she and her daughters fall in love with the same book. One day, while reading to her girls, she remembered the simple little characters she used to doodle as a child, and had the idea of combining them with her paintings.

With playful rhymes, hidden characters, and lovely art on every page, The Pillowpuffs will be the sort of favorite that kids and adults of all ages look forward to reading together over and over.

We are offering The Pillowpuffs in signed and unsigned editions. Signed editions will be hand-signed by author and illustrator Julia S. Powell.

More Information

  • Julia S. Powell lives and works in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Gouldsboro, Maine. She graduated from Yale University and received a law degree from Stanford University.

Julia has been profiled in Boston Magazine, Artsy Magazine, the Boston Globe, the Boston Globe Magazine, American Scholar, MiA Magazine, and Exhale Magazine, with her paintings also featured in Marie Claire, Boston Home, Architectural Digest, and Yankee Magazine.

She is a member of the Quin House Boston and the Copley Art Society, Boston. Her paintings can also be found in many private collections across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

As an artist, Julia says, “I want my art to be a walk in the woods, a pause in the chaos. A refuge. In my paintings, the landscape is an entryway to something hopeful, simple and sacred. I want my art to connect people to others, to their childhoods, to the present. I want it to soothe and to heal. That’s my hope.”

  • We accept all currencies. While our site is based in the UK and all prices show up in Great British Pounds, customers will automatically be charged the correct amount in their home currency.

  • Books will be printed on high-quality paper in full color and casebound for durability with a glossy mess-resistant finish.

  • We are aiming to take delivery of the books no later than December of 2024, although we anticipate being able to make an earlier delivery than that conservative estimate. Our latest foreseeable delivery date is September 2025.

  • We expect all orders to ship from the United States.

We ship the majority of our international orders via major courier companies, offering an express mailing service with a high standard of care, accurate tracking information, and faster delivery. Recipients will be responsible for paying any customs fees, import duty, or other charges levied upon arrival in their country.

Unfortunately, for a small business without our own fleet of planes and delivery vehicles, international shipping fees are high, and while our international rates may seem exorbitant, we do absorb part of the cost, leaving that rate still lower than the actual cost to us of shipping abroad.

Shipping costs on larger orders do scale, so we encourage our international customers to combine their orders when possible to save on shipping fees.
