Lovecraft loved Christmas—a fact which is perhaps at odds with many people’s views of the man. For HPL, the celebration represented an important continuation of an ancient English folk tradition. This special festive anthology, edited by Miskatonic Missives creative director N.R. Jenzen-Jones, celebrates Lovecraft’s experiences with the holiday season, collecting some of HPL’s work with a seasonal bent—from the light-hearted to the horrific.

This book primarily comprises Lovecraft’s published and unpublished poems which deal with Christmas, winter, the solstice, and related themes. HPL frequently wrote to his correspondents to convey his greetings of the season, and often included short poems. Many of those are also reproduced herein. The volume also includes ‘The Festival’, a delicious tale of a sinister Yuletide celebration rooted in pagan rites.

This festive volume is typeset in a classic style—with some delightful seasonal touches—and printed on high-quality paper stock using heritage printing techniques by a small, family-owned press in Scotland. Its forty eight pages are hand-bound with a pamphlet stitch in contrasting scarlet thread, and each copy of this unique book is signed by the Editor. This first edition printing is strictly limited to 500 copies.

This little volume exceeded all of my expectations! 'Christmas with H P Lovecraft' looks and feels like a vintage book, from the red string binding to the lightly embossed cover. This fascinating compilation of poetry and prose even includes personal greetings written to various correspondents. A limited (numbered, signed) edition, this is an invaluable addition to the yuletide celebration of any admirer of HPL.
